Grownups
Synopsis

GROWNUPS is the story of four kids - Matt, Brooke, Cody, and Hunter - who make a pact never to grow up after an off-hours encounter with toystore mascot and childhood idol Jarvis the Jackelope Jockey. Fifteen years later, three of them are still best friends, and their personalities and vocabularies are still well-preserved from the day they made their promise.

Brooke still makes macaroni letters for her teachers even though she failed out of high school several years ago, and Matt and Cody spend their time catching bugs in jars and pretending to be Ninja Turtles instead of dating. They make their money through a string of low-paying fantasy jobs at roller rinks, petting zoos, arcades, and amusement parks (Cody is a highly respected roller coaster tester.)

They mostly lead a happy and satisfying life, except for occasional run-ins with unsuspecting strangers (once Cody was whipped with a bike chain after mistaking a Hell's Angel for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer's Yukon Cornelius) and their parents, who have come to think of their children as ungrateful freeloaders, and possibly mentally retarded.

But then they run into "the one that got away," Hunter Metcalf. Hunter's "different." He's married, he substitute teaches at a local elementary school, he's studying to become a lawyer, he drinks coffee every morning and he's had his driver's license for approximately one decade. All of these achievements are alien concepts to Matt, Cody, and Brooke, and he inadvertently sends the three of them into a giant mess of doubt, decadence, fist fights, romance, revenge, and a very messy and complicated molestation charge, all of which threaten to make them come of age, whether they like it or not.

GROWNUPS is the first feature film by Paper Cookie, the production company of John Ferrer, Aubrey Curtis, and Joe Chang. It was filmed in Asheville, North Carolina on a shoestring budget and features cast and crew from all over North and South Carolina. It is currently in post-production and should be ready for public screenings before the end of the holiday season.
